Pabos, a ghost town on the Gaspé Peninsula, was razed by British forces under Wolfe in 1758 during the Seven Years' War — one of many Acadian and French Canadian settlements systematically destroyed to deny resources to the French colonial garrison. The $3 denomination itself belongs to Canada's short-lived non-circular coin program, which the Royal Canadian Mint introduced to serve the casino token market rather than general circulation.
