Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, diademed and wearing a necklace, as sculpted by Dora de Pédery-Hunt. The portrait is rendered with fine detail, capturing the Queen's jewelled crown and pearl necklace against a deeply mirrored proof field. The legend CANADA arcs above along the upper rim, the date 2001 appears to the lower left of the effigy, and ELIZABETH II is inscribed along the lower rim.

Reverse description Central design features a detailed rendition of the original 1851 Canadian three-cent beaver postage stamp motif, enclosed within an oval cartouche. A reclining beaver is depicted in a naturalistic setting amid logs and water, with the royal cypher V R flanking a Tudor crown above the central vignette. Decorative foliate scrollwork ornaments the lower flanks of the cartouche, and the denomination 3 CENTS is inscribed in bold lettering along the lower field. The overall composition faithfully reproduces the design attributed to Sandford Fleming.
