Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse is similarly typographic in character, enclosed within a raised rectangular border matching the obverse. The field carries three lines of incuse Latin lettering reading PROVISI / ONAL TRES / CENTAVOS, denoting the provisional denomination. A four-pointed star ornament occupies each corner, and the mintmaster initials TM appear in the lower portion of the field flanked by decorative stops and dashes. The austere, utilitarian design is consistent with emergency coinage struck during the Mexican Revolution.

Aanvullende informatie

Oaxaca's Provisional Government under General Guillermo Meixueiro issued its own coinage in 1915 as the state effectively operated as an independent entity, refusing to recognize Carranza's constitutionalist authority. The square planchet was a deliberate practical choice — copper sheet stock could be cut into squares without the waste generated by round blanks, a real consideration for a regional government minting under wartime resource constraints.

The series was short-lived. Carrancista forces consolidated control over Oaxaca by 1916, ending the sovereign monetary experiment entirely.
