| 背面描述 | Draped bust of King Ezana facing right, wearing a headcloth, with the royal titulary legend divided to either side of the effigy within a solid inner circle. The reverse portrait closely mirrors the obverse in style and composition, a common feature of Aksumite regal coinage, with the royal title ΒΑCIΛЄΥC flanking the bust. The field is plain beyond the inner circle, consistent with the compact flan of this denomination. |

Ezana ruled Aksum during one of the most consequential religious transitions in ancient African history — his conversion to Christianity in the 330s, likely facilitated by the Syrian monk Frumentius, made Aksum among the earliest states in the world to adopt Christianity as a state religion. The coinage reflects that shift directly, with the disk and cross type marking the transition away from the pre-Christian crescent-and-disk symbolism that had defined Aksumite issues for decades.
Gold-plated silver was a deliberate economic compromise for the fractional denominations, reserving solid gold for the larger prestige issues intended for international Red Sea trade.
