Obverse description Facing effigy of an idealized classical head, rendered in the ancient Greco-Roman manner, surrounded by a bold radiating sunburst halo of elongated rectangular rays set against a deeply mirrored field. The five interlocked Olympic rings appear in the lower left of the field, with the date 1968 to the lower right of the effigy. The legend MEXICO is inscribed along the lower exergual border. The overall design evokes antique solar iconography in homage to the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games.
