Obverse description The Mexican national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a golden eagle in left profile with wings raised and partially spread, perched upon a flowering nopal cactus growing from a rocky outcrop within a lake, its right talon and beak grasping a serpent. Below the cactus, two sprays — one of oak and one of laurel — curve upward to form a wreath joined at the base by a tricolor ribbon. The encircling legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS appears along the upper periphery in Latin characters.
