Issued to mark the 1981 wedding of Crown Prince Mohato Bereng Seeiso — who had already reigned as Moshoeshoe II since 1966 — this platinum strike was produced in extremely limited numbers as part of a broader royal wedding series that included gold and silver counterparts. Lesotho was among the earliest African nations to issue platinum bullion commemoratives, a distinction that owed more to the prestige economics of royal patronage than to any domestic platinum industry.
