South Ossetia has no internationally recognized monetary system — it operates within the Russian ruble zone and has never issued circulating coinage. Zarin is a small village in the Leningor district, a region whose administrative status remains genuinely disputed between South Ossetia and Georgia. The Saint George Church there predates the modern political conflict by centuries.
