Obverse description The heraldic eagle of the First Austrian Republic dominates the field, depicted facing left with wings displayed and a crown above its head. The eagle's right talon grasps a sickle and the left talon a hammer, emblematic of Austria's agricultural and industrial classes. The shield on the eagle's breast bears the arms of the Republic. The legend REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH arcs along the upper periphery in capital Latin characters.

Reverse description The denomination and date are rendered in four bold lines centered in the field: 25 SCHILLING / 19 / 31 / HARTIG, the latter recording the name of the engraver Arnold Hartig. Two symmetrical laurel branches frame the inscription above, while two stalks of wheat extend below, lending the design a classically balanced, heraldic character.
