Additional information

The Tundra Wolf issue belongs to Russia's long-running Animals of the Russian Federation series, which the Bank of Russia has used since the 1990s to produce large-format silver pieces targeting the collector market rather than circulation. These coins have never been intended as spending money — the face value is nominal to the point of absurdity against spot silver alone.

The tundra wolf (*Canis lupus albus*) ranges across the Eurasian Arctic and was historically subject to Soviet-era extermination campaigns; populations were hunted by aircraft through the 1970s.
