Pridnestrovie — the unrecognised breakaway state along the eastern bank of the Dniester River — has issued commemorative coins for decades despite lacking membership in any international monetary body. This piece honours Sevastopol as a Soviet "Hero City," a designation awarded in 1965 for the city's resistance during the 1941–1942 siege, one of the longest and most destructive in the war.
