The Far Eastern Republic was a short-lived Soviet buffer state established in April 1920 to avoid direct military confrontation with Japan, which still had forces in the region. Its paper currency was accordingly provisional in character — issued not by a central bank with any real monetary infrastructure but by a transitional authority that everyone understood would not last. The republic was absorbed into Soviet Russia in November 1922.
P#S1205 belongs to the "S" (Specialized) prefix in Pick, reflecting its status as a regional emergency emission rather than a mainstream national issue. These notes circulated in a zone where multiple competing currencies — Kolchak-era Siberian notes, Japanese military scrip, and various local issues — were simultaneously in use, making acceptance deeply unreliable.
