Obverse description The Sarnath Lion Capital of Ashoka, the national emblem of India, is depicted centrally in the field, showing three lions passant guardant mounted upon an abacus bearing a Dharma Chakra (wheel) flanked by a bull and a horse in low relief. The legend 'भारत' (Bharat) appears to the left and 'INDIA' to the right of the emblem, both reading upward. The design is framed by a continuous beaded border running along the inner rim.
