The four corners of the square are occupied by traditional Hindu iconographic symbols arranged clockwise from the upper left: Chakra (wheel), Shankha (conch), Gada (mace), and Padma (lotus). Above the square appear a crescent moon, the auspicious symbol Sri (श्री), and a sun disc; below the square is the regnal year in Bikram Sambat numerals. The overall design is contained within a scalloped border of petal-like lobes, giving the obverse a distinctive ornate appearance characteristic of Nepalese coinage of the period. |
