| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field dominated by the large interlaced royal cypher of Oscar II, composed of two ornate Gothic 'O' letters intertwined, rendered in high relief with elaborate scrollwork at the base. The cypher is surmounted by an open royal crown adorned with pearls and arches. Three small Swedish three-crown emblems are positioned flanking the cypher — one to the left, one to the right, and one at the base — referencing the arms of Sweden. The legend BRÖD RAFOLKENS VÄL curves along the upper periphery in large Latin characters, with the engraver's initials E.B. appearing in the lower right field. Oscar II's early silver fractionals were struck under a monetary framework Sweden shared with Denmark and Norway through the Scandinavian Monetary Union, established in 1873 — the year before this type's production began. The Union pegged all three currencies to gold but allowed silver subsidiary coinage to circulate freely across borders, which this denomination did in meaningful quantities.
The "large letters" distinction separates this from a later die revision, making attribution to variety a matter of close examination of the legend typography rather than any structural design change.
