| Reverse description | Full-length standing figure of Peter Stuyvesant, the Dutch colonial governor of New Netherland, depicted in period 17th-century costume with breeches, sash, and his characteristic prosthetic peg leg, leaning on a long staff or pike. The figure stands atop a stylized pedestal base inscribed with the denomination 25G within a chevron-shaped cartouche. The legend PETER STUYVESANT arcs across the upper field, flanked by two raised dots, with a small Franklin Mint mintmark at the base of the design, all set against a mirrored prooflike field. |

| Additional information |
Peter Stuyvesant governed New Amsterdam — present-day New York — as Director-General of New Netherland from 1647 until the English forced his surrender in 1664. The Dutch colonial period he administered left a deeper mark on lower Manhattan's street grid and property boundaries than is generally credited. This 1977 issue commemorates that connection from the Netherlands Antilles, which retained Dutch sovereignty long after the mainland colonies were ceded.
Struck at a time when the Antilles were producing several high-denomination silver commemoratives aimed squarely at the collector market, the series saw limited genuine circulation. Stuyvesant died in 1672 on his farm in what is now the East Village.
