Obverse lettering ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA 25 CENTS
(Translation: Elizabeth II Queen by the grace of God)
Reverse description The reverse, designed and engraved by Cosme Saffioti, depicts an allegorical scene symbolising the passage of wisdom across generations: a seated elderly man wearing a broad-brimmed hat crouches to offer a maple leaf to a young infant, the two figures united by a shared branch against a radiant rising sun in the background. The composition evokes the theme of wisdom passed from the old to the young at the dawn of the new millennium. The bilingual legend WISDOM and SAGESSE arcs across the upper field flanking the date 2000, while CANADA is inscribed along the lower arc. The engraver's initials CS appear in the lower left field. An inner beaded border surrounds the entire design.
