The Beatrix coinage series launched in 1982 following her April 1980 coronation, itself overshadowed by significant rioting in Amsterdam — demonstrators opposing the housing crisis clashed violently with police on the day she took the oath, making it one of the more turbulent royal inaugurations in modern Dutch history.
