Additional information

Puebla de Cazalla issued its own emergency coinage in 1936 as the Spanish Civil War severed normal currency supply lines across Andalusia. Hundreds of municipalities across Republican-held Spain did the same — local brass tokens filling the vacuum left by hoarded silver and disrupted minting. Most circulated only within the issuing town's immediate economy, redeemed or withdrawn as central Republican authorities gradually reasserted monetary control through 1937 and 1938. Few saw enough circulation to show meaningful wear, which explains why survivors often appear in surprisingly sound condition despite the chaos of their origin.
