正面描述 Central to the obverse is the Costa Rican national coat of arms, depicting three snow-capped volcanoes rising above a valley between two oceans, with two sailing vessels on the waters on either side symbolizing the country's position between the Atlantic and Pacific. A rising sun appears in the upper field of the shield, and seven stars arc above the central scene representing the seven provinces. The shield is surmounted by a wreath and flanked by laurel branches. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE COSTA RICA appears above, with AMERICA CENTRAL below, and the date 1935 is positioned at the base of the design.

The legend AMERICA CENTRAL arcs along the upper periphery, while the issuing authority's initials B. I. C. R. (Banco Internacional de Costa Rica) appear at the base below the wreath. A beaded border runs along the coin's rim.

附加信息

The Banco Internacional de Costa Rica was the country's central bank from 1914 until its reorganization into the Banco Nacional de Costa Rica in 1936 — meaning this 1935 issue was struck in the institution's final year of operation. The transition was part of a broader consolidation of Costa Rican monetary and agricultural credit functions under a single state entity, driven largely by the economic pressures of the Depression years.

The shift to copper-nickel for this denomination replaced earlier silver coinage, a change that had occurred across much of Latin America during the 1920s as silver prices and government finances made the old alloys impractical.
