The 240 Francs denomination is a fiction of convenience — it exists solely to price the coin at a round figure in a target export currency, almost certainly Chinese yuan, given that lunar series issues from African minting programs are produced entirely for the overseas collector market and have no plausible domestic circulation in the DRC. Congo's actual currency infrastructure in 2013 ran on Congolese francs in the thousands for everyday transactions. A coin denominated at 240 of them would have been worth fractions of a cent in real terms.
