Norway had no gold coinage infrastructure of its own in 1761 — the country was governed under the Danish crown, and this piece was almost certainly struck at the Copenhagen mint as a presentation or pattern piece rather than for any serious monetary purpose. Frederik V showed little direct interest in Norwegian monetary reform, making the commission of a gold pattern in a Norwegian denomination something of an administrative curiosity rather than a policy proposal.

Hede 2A is among the rarest Norwegian pattern attributions, with surviving examples numbering in the single digits.
