Portugal's Casa da Moeda issued this piece as part of a long-running numismatic series dedicated to the Museu do Dinheiro, the money museum that opened in Lisbon in 2016 inside the former church of São Julião — a building largely destroyed in the 1755 earthquake and rebuilt, then repurposed by the Banco de Portugal. The 2.5 euro denomination exists solely as a collector face value, never intended for circulation.
