| 裏面の説明 | The reverse depicts three stylized Barcelos figurines — traditional Portuguese folk pottery characters — arranged centrally in high relief, each rendered with expressive, fantastical features characteristic of the Figurado de Barcelos craft tradition. The legend 'FIGURADO DE BARCELOS' arcs along the upper periphery of the coin, while the denomination '2,50 EURO' appears in the upper central field. The designer's name 'BAIBA SIME' and the mint mark 'INCM' are inscribed in the lower field or exergue area. The composition celebrates one of Portugal's most iconic forms of popular art and handicraft. |

The Galo de Barcelos — the rooster of Barcelos — is Portugal's most recognizable folk symbol, rooted in a medieval legend tied to a Galician pilgrim wrongly condemned to hang. The story holds that the man, facing execution, pointed to a roasted rooster on a judge's table and declared it would crow as proof of his innocence. It crowed. The legend has driven ceramic production in the Barcelos region for centuries, making it one of the few pieces of folklore to generate a sustained cottage industry that survives entirely on domestic and tourist demand.
This issue belongs to INCM's ongoing "Figurados" series, which draws on Portuguese artisanal traditions rather than historical or political subjects.
