Portugal's 2½ euro denomination was introduced specifically for collector issues, never intended for general circulation. This silver variant of the 2015 climate change issue appeared alongside the base metal version, timed to coincide with COP21 in Paris — the summit that produced the Paris Agreement in December of that year. INCM has used the denomination repeatedly for environmental and commemorative themes, producing both cupronickel and .925 silver strikes of the same type.
