Béla Spányi (1852–1914) was a Hungarian landscape painter whose centenary of death this coin marks. He studied under landscape specialist Károly Telepy in Budapest before moving to Munich, then settling into a long career documenting the Hungarian countryside — particularly the Danube and Tisza river regions — in a naturalistic style that placed him firmly outside the avant-garde movements of his era but earned him consistent institutional recognition, including election to the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts.
