Aanvullende informatie

Leif Eriksson's landfall in North America — almost certainly at L'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland, dated archaeologically to around 1000 AD — predates Columbus by roughly five centuries, though the Norse settlement lasted no more than a decade before abandonment. The Gambia has no historical connection to Eriksson whatsoever; this is a bullion-adjacent commemorative issued purely for the international collector market, a revenue instrument dressed as numismatic tribute.

The 2020 date places it among dozens of similar issues from small African central banks licensing their minting authority to European distributors, most commonly through arrangements with the Bavarian State Mint or comparable facilities.
