Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield divided into three sections: the upper portion shows a rising sun over a seascape with the key of the Gulf of Mexico, the lower-left section bears diagonal blue and white stripes representing the original departments of Cuba, and the lower-right section displays a royal palm tree against a mountainous landscape. The shield is surmounted by the Phrygian cap on a pike, symbolizing liberty, and flanked by an oak branch to the left and a laurel branch to the right, tied at the base with a ribbon. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper periphery, while 200 PESOS appears along the lower border, with 1 OZ to the lower left and AU 0.900 to the lower right.
