The face value '200 LEI' and the date '2010' are inscribed below the cathedral, flanked by Romania's coat of arms. Issued to mark the 85th anniversary of the Romanian Patriarchate, established in 1925 when the Orthodox Church of Romania was elevated from metropolitanate to patriarchate following the country's post-WWI territorial consolidation. The first Patriarch, Miron Cristea, would later serve simultaneously as Prime Minister during the royal dictatorship of Carol II — an overlap of ecclesiastical and state authority rarely matched in modern European history.
The .999 fineness places this outside Romania's earlier gold coinage traditions, which typically ran at .900.
