Issued to mark the 50th birthday of Queen Silvia, born Silvia Renate Sommerlath in Heidelberg in 1943. She met Carl XVI Gustaf at the 1972 Munich Olympics, where she was working as a hostess — an encounter that led to their 1976 marriage, itself commemorated by an earlier Riksbank issue. The 1993 coin was struck in relatively modest numbers for a modern Swedish commemorative, and the series has attracted consistent collector interest largely because Silvia remains one of the more internationally prominent Scandinavian consorts of the postwar period.
