František Škroup composed the melody that became the Czech national anthem in 1834, originally written as a song within the comic opera Dráteník. The tune was never intended as anything so solemn — it was a simple, nostalgic piece asking "where is my home?" The Czech National Bank issued this coin in 2001 to mark the 200th anniversary of his birth.
Škroup died in Rotterdam in 1862, having spent his final years conducting opera in the Netherlands, largely forgotten in his homeland.
