| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a close-up view of a gold pan held by partially visible hands, tilted to reveal accumulated sediment and gold flakes concentrated at the base of the pan, evoking the tradition of placer gold panning in the Canadian wilderness. The design is rendered in high relief with meticulous surface detail on the pan and its contents. The legend 'CANADA' arcs prominently along the upper border with the date '2021' below it, while 'FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR' and the purity mark '99999' are inscribed in the lower field. A Royal Canadian Mint maple leaf privy mark appears at the bottom center. The engraver's initials 'SH' are visible in the mid-field to the right of the pan. |

The "five nines" fineness designation — .99999 — has been a Royal Canadian Mint marketing anchor since the 1990s, achievable only through a refinement process that strips out virtually all base metal trace elements. Most investment and bullion gold operates at .9999; this extra step is largely symbolic but has proven effective at commanding premiums in collector markets.
