| Reverse description | The central field depicts a sailing vessel in motion, representing the sport of sailing as featured in the 2008 Beijing Summer Games. The English legend 'SUMMER GAMES 2008' arcs along the upper periphery. The Chinese characters '帆艇' (sailing) appear in the center alongside the sporting motif. At the lower portion, the Daesong Fortress wall provides a backdrop, incorporating the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, with the Korean inscription '대성산성' and the year '2008' completing the design. |

North Korea issued a series of brass collector coins in the 2000s primarily for foreign currency generation rather than domestic circulation — hard currency earned through numismatic exports was a meaningful revenue stream for the regime during a period of sustained international sanctions. These pieces were distributed almost exclusively through overseas dealers and never entered the North Korean domestic economy.
