| Additional information |
Kim Jong Suk — guerrilla fighter, wife of Kim Il-sung, and mother of Kim Jong-il — died in 1949 and was subsequently elevated into the DPRK's official revolutionary pantheon. North Korean commemorative silver issues of this period were produced almost exclusively for the hard-currency export market, sold through dealers in Macau and European numismatic houses. Virtually none entered domestic circulation; most North Koreans would never have handled foreign-denominated silver coinage of any kind.
KM#957 belongs to a sprawling series of themed commemoratives the Central Bank issued through the early 2000s, many sharing the same 45mm planchet specification across entirely unrelated subjects.
