Obverse description A detailed frontal view of the Taedong Gate (Taedongmun), the historic east gate of Pyongyang, rendered in high relief and occupying the majority of the coin's field. The multi-tiered traditional Korean pavilion-style gatehouse is depicted with fine architectural detail, including characteristic curved eave rooflines at each level and a stone base. A Korean-script legend reading '조선민주주의인민공화국' (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) curves around the upper periphery, while the denomination '20 원' appears in the lower exergue.
