| Obverse description | Central motif depicts the Taedong Gate (East Gate) of Pyongyang, rendered in fine detail with its characteristic multi-tiered traditional Korean architectural form and sweeping tiled roofs occupying the field. Decorative elements including stylized clouds and rocks appear at the base of the structure. A circular Korean-script legend reading the full state name of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea runs along the upper periphery, while the denomination '20 원' (20 Won) is inscribed at the bottom of the field. |
