The East African Currency Board operated as a classic colonial currency arrangement — notes were backed by sterling held in London, meaning the board itself carried no lending function and existed purely to manage the exchange. This 1939 issue arrived as war in Europe was becoming inevitable, and wartime shipping disruptions would soon complicate the straightforward London-to-Nairobi supply chain that De La Rue depended on for distribution.
Pick 26C sits within a longer-running series that changed relatively little across George V and George VI iterations, with the regnal shift being the primary distinguishing factor between otherwise near-identical printings. Collectors frequently conflate the sub-varieties; the pick letter matters here.
