The 25th anniversary series marked Sudan's independence from Anglo-Egyptian Condominium rule in January 1956, making 1981 the commemorative anchor date. Thomas De La Rue handled the majority of Sudanese note production through this period, and the P#22 series continues that relationship without interruption — no change in printer, no redesign of the security architecture, just a commemorative overprint on an established base.
The single watermark as the sole listed security feature reflects how little had changed in Sudanese note specification since the mid-1970s. By 1981, inflation was already beginning to erode the pound's purchasing power, a trajectory that would accelerate sharply within the decade.
