Reverse description A finely rendered female head, facing left, set at the centre of a deeply recessed incuse square divided into compartments by a raised cross-like framework. The female effigy, likely representing Arethusa or a local nymph, displays carefully detailed hair bound with a diadem or fillet. The incuse technique is characteristic of early Syracusan gold coinage of the Dionysian period, with the raised circular boss surrounding the head contrasting with the flat, sunken quadripartite field.
