Reverse description The reverse is printed in dark green on an uncoated cream paper ground. 'Gutschein über zwanzig Heller' is rendered in large flowing script across the upper portion, with the numeral '20' set within a lightly engraved central medallion; stylised edelweiss flower ornaments frame the upper corners. Below, a block of roman-script text in smaller type sets out the legal and redemption terms, citing the Landtag resolution of 17 October 1919 and referencing the Landesobereinnahmeramt in Graz as the place of redemption until 29 February 1920.

Austrian Notgeld of this type emerged from a genuine collapse in small-denomination coinage during and after World War One — not a novelty issue, but a practical emergency. The provincial government of Styria stepped in when the central authorities could not supply enough circulating coin, issuing these tiny paper slips through local administrative channels rather than through any formal banking structure. Thousands of similar issues flooded Austria between 1919 and 1922, from individual municipalities down to single businesses, and Styria's provincial series sits at the more official end of that spectrum.

The 69 × 45 mm format was dictated by paper economy, not design choice.
