Albania's first national gold coinage was struck at the Rome Mint in 1926 and 1927, issued under Ahmet Zogu shortly before he proclaimed himself King Zog I in 1928. The coins were part of a deliberate nation-building exercise following the monetary chaos of the post-Ottoman period, with the franga ari system pegged to the French franc to attract foreign investment and signal stability to European creditors.
Three Farouk reference numbers reflect distinct date and mint mark combinations across the two years of issue. The 1927 R striking is considerably scarcer than the 1926.
