| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a large Arabic inscription in elegant Maghrebi calligraphic script, reading the name and title of Muhammad al-Amin, Bey of Tunisia, arranged across three lines within an ornate cusped cartouche. Flanking the cartouche on either side are finely detailed sprigs — an olive branch to the left and a wheat ear to the right — symbolising the agricultural wealth of Tunisia. The Hijri date 1373 appears at the base of the cartouche. The entire composition is enclosed within a geometric interlaced border of diamond and chain motifs, characteristic of the Art Deco influence prevalent in French colonial coinage of the period. |
