Reverse description A detailed line-engraving style depiction of the paddle steamer SS La Suisse occupies the full coin field, the vessel shown in three-quarter broadside view advancing to the right. The ship is rendered with exceptional technical precision, showing the hull, paddleboxes, funnel, masts, rigging, and flags in fine relief. Above the main vessel, a schematic cutaway diagram of the steam engine machinery is shown in the upper field, illustrating the mechanical workings of the paddle wheel drive. The engraver's signature U. COLOMBI appears to the upper left, and the legend SS LA SUISSE is inscribed along the lower exergue.

Additional information

The paddle steamer La Suisse has operated on Lake Geneva since 1910, making it one of the oldest steamships still in regular passenger service anywhere in Europe. Unlike many preserved vessels that run as occasional tourist attractions, it remains part of the CGN fleet's scheduled service — a working ship, not a museum piece.

Swissmint's commemorative franc series has leaned heavily on Alpine and transport heritage since the 1990s, and this issue fits squarely in that tradition. The .835 silver alloy is the same standard used in Swiss circulation coinage for most of the twentieth century.
