| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of Mercury in right profile, wearing the winged petasus helmet characteristic of the god of commerce, rendered in a refined Art Deco style by engraver Marcel Rau. The caduceus appears vertically in the left field, flanking the date which is divided on either side of the staff. The engraver's surname RAU is incused in the lower right field beneath the truncation of the neck. The portrait is modeled with fine sculptural detail, conveying a classical yet modernist aesthetic consistent with mid-20th century Belgian coinage. |
