Reverse description A broad sword with its point directed to the left dominates the central field, its blade dividing two half-eagles facing left, one on each side. Arranged around the periphery are ten Swiss crosses, each contained within a square cartouche, forming a decorative border. The inscription 'DORNACH 1499' references the historic battle, paired with '1999' marking the quincentennial commemoration. The engraver's initials 'FE 99' appear in the lower field.

Additional information

Issued to mark the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Dornach, fought on 22 July 1499, where a Confederacy force routed the Imperial army of Maximilian I, effectively ending the Swabian War. The Swiss extracted no formal treaty ceding independence — that would wait until Westphalia in 1648 — but Dornach made further Habsburg military pressure politically untenable. The battle lasted under an hour.
