| Opis rewersu | The architectural floor plan of Villa Almerico Capra, known as La Rotonda, dominates the reverse field, serving as an emblematic representation of Palladian genius. Within the plan are inscribed the denomination 20 EURO, the Rome Mint mark R, and the logo of the Europa Coin Programme. Above the plan, an elevation view of the villa's façade is depicted, flanked by the commemorative dates 1508 and 2008 marking the quincentenary of Palladio's birth. Issued to mark the 500th anniversary of Palladio's birth, this coin arrived during a broader Italian commemorative program that produced gold pieces honoring architects, artists, and engineers across several years. Palladio's influence on Western architecture — particularly his direct line to Thomas Jefferson's Monticello and the British Palladian movement — made him an obvious candidate. The Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato struck these in limited numbers primarily for collectors; virtually none entered circulation.
