| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse features a large stylised portrait of Josephine Baker in left-facing profile, rendered in a bold, modern engraving style with fine parallel line work in the background evoking stage lighting. The legend JOSEPHINE BAKER curves vertically along the central field. To the right, a classical draped bust of Marianne is depicted in lower relief, overlaid with the monogram RF in tall stylised lettering representing the French Republic. The date 2024 appears in the lower left field, with the mint mark and engraver's initials discretely placed nearby. Six stars from the standard EU ring are visible along the scalloped border. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Issued as part of France's ongoing "Grandes Dames" circulation commemorative program, this piece honors Baker's 1937 naturalization as a French citizen — a status she leveraged during World War II when she worked as an intelligence courier for the French Resistance, smuggling information written in invisible ink on her sheet music. The Monnaie de Paris has leaned heavily into this program since the 2010s, placing non-standard portraits into the 20-cent denomination specifically because Nordic gold's warm tone photographs well in press coverage.
Baker was posthumously inducted into the Panthéon in November 2021, the first Black woman so honored.
