| Obverse description | The central field displays the coat of arms of Liberia, featuring a three-masted sailing ship on the sea, a dove, a palm tree, a rising sun, and a plough within a shield, surmounted by a scroll inscribed REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA. The date 1997 appears to the left of the arms and the denomination $20 DOLLARS is inscribed in the exergue below. The outer legend reads REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA and THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE, the latter rendered in a curved band across the upper field.
