Additional information

Cook Islands has issued commemorative silver under its own authority since the 1970s, a legal arrangement that allows foreign minting houses — primarily the Perth Mint and various European operations — to produce collector pieces using the Cook Islands name and currency denominations entirely disconnected from any actual circulation economy. This coin marks the centenary of Howard Carter's November 1922 discovery of KV62 in the Valley of the Kings, a tomb that had escaped systematic plundering largely because debris from the later cutting of Ramesses VI's tomb directly above had buried and concealed the entrance for over three millennia.
