The EURion constellation — the pattern of small rings embedded in banknote designs to prevent photocopier reproduction — was added to the 20,000 forint series for this 2008–2009 printing, distinguishing it from earlier issues of the same design. The Hungarian Banknote Printing Company, operating continuously in Budapest since 1923, handled the full production run domestically, which is relatively uncommon for high-denomination notes in the region.
At face value, 20,000 forint was the highest denomination in regular Hungarian circulation at the time of issue. Color-shifting ink on this denomination was introduced partly in response to counterfeiting pressure on the series during the mid-2000s.
